With his wife and two children by his side Kevin Faulconer was sworn in as San Diego's 36th mayor. Faulconer defeated fellow councilman David Alvarez in the February 11th runoff election in which voters selected the replacement for Bob Filner who resigned in disgrace August 30, 2013 amid a sexual harassment scandal. Filner was barely nine months into his four-year term. Council President Todd Gloria filled in after Filner left. 47 year old Kevin Faulconer told a standing-room only crowd at the Jacobs Center for Neighborhood Innovation that his inauguration starts a new chapter in the city's history -- ``A chapter written by the people of San Diego.'' His vacant council seat will be filled in the next 30 days.
